18 Micro Habits to Feel More Feminine After Having a Baby (Even If You Work Full-Time)

Sharing is caring!

Most women assume that once you have a baby—and especially once you return to work—your femininity quietly disappears.

You’re rushing through your days, juggling work, childcare, and everything in between… and “feeling feminine” starts to feel like something optional. Even unrealistic.

But here’s the truth I discovered in my own postpartum journey: femininity isn’t about having more time—it’s about being smart with how you move through your day.

And when you bring it back in small, intentional ways, everything shifts.

You feel calmer, more confident, more like yourself again. You start to enjoy your days more. You stop feeling like you’re constantly in survival mode.

This is the essence of a slow lifestyle—even in a busy season of life. Like one of my favorite feminine affirmation says:

I am flexible and flowing.

Because slow living is about doing things with more intention, softness, and presence—even when you’re working and raising a baby.

But here’s the key: the habits have to feel effortless and blend into your day.

So in this post, I’m sharing 18 simple micro habits that helped me stay feminine—even after having a baby and returning to work.

Why is it Crucial to Stay in Your Feminine Energy Postpartum (for a different reason than you might think)?

When you think about staying feminine postpartum, you’re probably thinking: it will be beneficial for my self-esteem, I will feel better, I will be happier when looking in the mirror. But did you realize that your state of being as a woman actually has an enormous influence on many other lives?

You now have so many roles: you’re a woman, a mum, a partner, a coworker, a daughter, perhaps a sister, a friend… Women really do wear multiple hats. And most probably, what you care about most at this very moment is that your baby is happy.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: your baby will be happiest if you yourself are happy, fulfilled, and as relaxed as possible. And feeling connected to your feminine energy is one of the most crucial parts of womanhood for many women.

And there’s more: your feminine energy also influences your relationship enormously. And who benefits from a strong, resilient, and loving relationship between mum and dad? Your children.

So I hope you understand how crucial staying in your feminine energy is.

The Key to Staying Feminine After Returning To Work Postpartum

The key to staying in your feminine energy postpartum is simple. In my mind, there are five aspects to it:

  • Define what makes you feel most feminine
  • Make realistic choices about which rituals or habits to keep and which you have to give up due to lack of time
  • Tweak your feminine habits so they fit into your new routine
  • Make them extremely quick and easy to practice
  • Make sure to practice them daily

I will give you a personal example:

  • What makes me feel feminine is, for example, smelling good—so I never gave up my daily shower or washing my hair every 2–3 days.
  • I gave up doing my nails.
  • I reduced showering twice a day to once a day.
  • I found a quick routine to make myself look “perfect” (to me): using a heatless curler.
  • Even if I feel overwhelmed, I make sure to do at least a couple of my rituals.

18 (very) Micro Habits that Helped Me Stay Feminine Postpartum While Returning to Work

1. Curate your Wardrobe to Always Look Feminine Easily

As you probably know (as a mum), your new life is all about being organized and creating systems (this made a huge improvement in my quality of life once I discovered it!). This is also a huge time-safer.

So your new system for continuing to wear feminine clothes is to:

  • Simplify your wardrobe: get rid of old clothes, clothes that don’t fit, or pieces you don’t want to wear anymore.
  • Curate an efficient, feminine wardrobe.
  • Keep your style and colors cohesive so it’s effortless to put together an outfit.

Pro tip: as an actuary (a mathematician), I needed to optimize this point. So for those of you who want to go deeper, here is how to curate an efficient, feminine wardrobe:

  • Feminine color palette: first of all, you need to know which tones and colors suit you best. For me, it’s cool tones, and I love light, pastel colors.
  • Clothing cuts that match your figure: then learn which type of body shape you have, so you know which cuts suit you best. I’m an hourglass type, but I have broad shoulders, so I need to be mindful of that. I enjoy accentuating my waist, and a big T-shirt makes me look overweight (in my opinion).
  • Lastly: pick your style. I personally prefer a more elegant, feminine style.

From there, you simply buy clothes that match your feminine color palette, your most flattering cuts, and your preferred style.

I can assure you that I don’t need more than 10 seconds to put together a soft, feminine outfit—because everything in my wardrobe already matches.

2. Choose Which Feminine Rituals to Prioritize, and Which Ones to Give Up

You need to be honest with yourself and do a small audit to find out which rituals truly make you feel feminine, good, and empowered. You won’t have time for all of your old rituals, sadly.

But you can—and should—keep a few core ones that will anchor you and keep you connected to your feminine self.

For me, I gave up doing my nails. It’s too complicated to maintain in my situation, and it doesn’t bother me. It doesn’t bother my partner either—it was important for me to take that into account, as I want him to be attracted to me. But he doesn’t care whether my nails are polished or natural.

3. Find Quick Beauty Hacks That Work

You’ve prioritized your feminine needs—great! But here’s the thing: you can’t simply perform your chosen rituals the way you used to. You now have a baby who needs you.

So you need to tweak them a little and find new ways to achieve similar results with less time invested. Be creative. Look for shortcuts that give you 80% of the result with 20% of the effort.

For example, I found a great way to do my hair: I use an overnight heatless curler. Honestly, my hair looks great to me, it takes maybe 3 minutes to set, and it’s healthy for my hair on top of that.

A win-win situation!

4. Create your Signature Micro Glow-up Look That Represents YOU

Before becoming a mum, I loved experimenting a bit with my hair and make-up. It gave me pleasure—I really enjoyed it. However, now as a mum, I need to be efficient.

So I encourage you to create your own signature, micro glow-up, go-to look—something you can do almost on autopilot.

The way I approach it is simple: I want to have smooth skin and a soft blush. So I use two primers, a little bit of foundation, and concealer. This gives my skin that signature, smooth and blushy look that I love.

5. Exercise When You Can – Find a Quick Routine That Works for You

So far, the points were quite superficial. But femininity is not only about looking your best—it’s mainly about feeling your best.

And let me tell you, nothing makes you feel better—especially after pregnancy—than having a strong, toned, and healthy body.

However, I acknowledge that it can be difficult to find time to exercise. But I’m not talking about full, one-hour structured workouts.

Find a simple yet challenging 10–20 minute workout and do it a few times per week, whenever you can.

I personally do Boho Beautiful Pilates about 2–4 times a week. It’s short, which is great because I can fit it into my daily routine. However, it’s still challenging enough to push my body and help me get stronger again.

6. Pre-prepare Your Healthy Meals

healthy oatmeal, berries, healthy berry oatmeal

Motherhood is all about efficiency—being organised and intentional with your time. So a great habit that I started is preparing my breakfast the night before.

In the morning, before I leave for the office, every minute counts, and even a 5-minute delay matters—unlike in the evening.

So find your own healthy recipe. I personally go for overnight oats, which is basically oatmeal with a bunch of seeds, nuts, and berries—nutritious and delicious.

And by the way… is it only me, or does eating berries make you feel very feminine? There’s something about it that just feels soft, nourishing, and feminine.

7. Flirt with Your Partner

In the midst of all the postpartum chaos and returning to work, you might not be in the perfect mood to flirt. I get it—hormones, a crying baby, and a new project at work don’t exactly sound sexy.

Yet, it’s important to maintain intimacy—not only for your relationship, but also for your feminine energy.

It’s very easy to forget that behind the mum and the busy coworker, there is also a woman. A beautiful, almost goddess-like version of yourself, who enjoys feeling a bit seductive and adored—at least that’s how I feel.

So even if I don’t always feel like it, I remind myself that it’s nice to flirt with my husband. Hug him, touch him in an intimate way, keep the spark alive—and reconnect with that feminine part of yourself.

8. Wear Feminine Dresses

If you want to feel feminine but have no time to think about your outfit, first: curate your wardrobe (point 1). Second: befriend feminine dresses. Dresses will be your biggest allies in this situation—let me explain why.

Postpartum, you probably don’t want to wear tight, restrictive clothes, right? You may not have returned to your pre-pregnancy weight yet, and your body is still toning. Tight clothes might either not fit or feel unflattering.

Dresses, on the other hand, are perfect for postpartum life: flowy, super quick and easy to put on, yet chic. They’re comfortable, give easy access for breastfeeding, and—bonus—your husband will love them too!

A flowy dress instantly makes you feel soft, elegant, and more connected to your feminine self—even on the busiest days.

9. Find your Healthy Scent (I make my own perfume!)

We all know that conventional perfumes aren’t the healthiest for our hormones and aren’t really recommended around a baby. But we still want to smell nice and feminine, don’t we?

My solution to this dilemma is simple: make your own perfume using essential oils!

Essential oils are healthier than conventional perfumes, so you don’t have to compromise your femininity or your signature scent postpartum. I make my own perfumes, which is actually a wonderful and indulgent feminine activity!

10. Get Fresh Flowers

I’ve mentioned this countless times already, but nothing makes a woman feel more cherished and feminine than fresh flowers. Isn’t it true? The beauty, freshness, scent, and the lively, elegant aura they bring is simply addictive!

And you don’t need to buy an expensive bouquet. A simple, inexpensive bunch from your local market works just as well—and won’t hurt your finances.

11. Maintain Your Privacy and Your Mystery

All moms know how easy it is to just go around with your boobs out all day—whether for breastfeeding or pumping. Your child needs them so many times during the day, right?

Yes, but here’s the thing: naked boobs that are constantly on display for breastfeeding aren’t particularly feminine—or sexy—to your husband or partner.

And you’re also losing the mystery—the little spark that makes your partner find you attractive, the allure that makes him imagine how you look without clothes.

So, as compelling as it may be, try not to go around with naked boobs in front of your husband or partner. Protect that intimacy, and keep a bit of mystery alive.

12. Keep Putting Things Away to Maintain a Tidy Home

clean flat, luxurious flat, luxurious living room, tidy living room, feminine energy, how to be feminine

This is a huge debate, right? Postpartum chaos at home often leads to a disorganized and messy house. But I encourage you to make an effort to keep your flat as clean as possible. And here’s why: a tidy space gives you peace of mind and actually boosts your femininity.

You can’t really exude feminine energy in a messy environment.

So what I do is keep putting things back in their assigned place. It requires discipline—sometimes you don’t feel like it—but I keep doing it because I notice how much it elevates my mood and my sense of feminine energy.

Even 5 minutes a day of putting things away can make your space feel calm and elegant—and instantly lift your feminine energy.

13. Respect Your Time (block your calendar)

I don’t know about you, but personally, once I became a mom, my people-pleasing tendencies disappeared. I’m now fully focused on being super efficient with my time, so I can spend as much quality time with my baby as possible. My time is precious, and I no longer hesitate to say “no”—even to work-related events or requests.

Here’s how you can organize your time postpartum: block your calendar at work for pumping or nursing in advance. I set a recurring daily event so I never miss a session and everyone knows I’ll be away.

Also, block time for your feminine activities—maybe a short Pilates session or another micro habit that nourishes you.

The key is to be strict with your boundaries regarding your time—for your family and for yourself. Every minute now counts.

14. Walk to Your Office to Reset

cherry blossom, flowers, cherry trees, feminine energy, how to be feminine

There is one thing I look forward to every day—my daily walk to the office. This morning walk has something magical about it; it’s almost like a meditation. It always puts me in a good mood, gets my blood flowing, and no matter how rough the night was, it makes me feel happy and positive.

Morning walks like this are truly magical. They help reset your mood, switch off negative thinking, and promote positive energy. And positive thinking is exactly what makes you radiant, confident, and feminine.

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts,”35 Powerful Affirmations To Live By For Feminine Women“:

I release the need for struggle and suffering – I deserve happiness and joy.

15. Focus on Positive Thoughts (despite everything)

A positive attitude, a smile on your face, bright eyes, and that contagious, happy energy—it’s unforgettable. It draws people in and makes you, as a woman, truly irresistible. No one prefers a grumpy lady. That’s just not feminine.

When you think about femininity, you probably imagine a calm, cheerful, happy energy. That is exactly what you need to embody.

And here’s the reality: I’m fully aware that postpartum life and returning to work is hard. I’m living it myself. But you can’t let yourself get sucked into endless negative thoughts. Not only will it diminish your feminine energy, but it will also affect everyone around you. Your partner may become grumpy, conflicts can rise, your baby may pick up on the tension, and your work life suffers too. It’s basically the law of attraction at work.

So what can we do instead? My approach: focus on positive thoughts and consciously ignore the negative. Think of it like training a muscle at the gym—it requires awareness, repetition, and strong willpower.

This is how I fight off negative thinking and protect my feminine energy.

16. Get a Cleaner

If you can afford to delegate tedious but necessary tasks, do it. There’s no better time than now to invest (not spend) your money in a cleaner. This allows you to focus on self-care, your relationship, or your baby. After all, you work and earn this money, and postpartum is such a vulnerable and challenging time. Why not invest now in yourself?

I personally have a cleaner come every two weeks, and I’m actually considering increasing it to weekly. This gives me time to do self-care and feel happy, radiant, and feminine—rather than exhausted after spending hours cleaning the apartment.

17. Do online grocery shopping

Just like the previous point, there’s no better time than now to invest in small luxury services. Listen—you’re a mum, you work, you’re a partner, and you also need time for self-care. That’s a lot to juggle!

Even though I’m normally frugal and prefer to save or invest money rather than spend on luxury services, this was non-negotiable for me.

Not only does online grocery shopping save you time, but it also protects your baby from potential exposure to viruses. So yes, even if it costs a bit more to have your groceries delivered, do it. Use the time you save for a workout, self-care, or simply to breathe. I even pay extra for floor delivery—no regrets!

18. Get a Nanny to Have a Bit of Time for Yourselves

Ok, I’m still working on this point—personally, I haven’t found a babysitter yet. However, it’s something I wanted to mention. Having a good babysitter gives you time for dates with your husband or partner. And remember, we are dating our partners for life, right? Relationships stay alive when you keep adding fuel to the fire. Little dates or surprises go a long way.

I can already see the benefits of having just two hours of free time for the two of us. I’m working on this, and I can’t wait for our first date together, just like in the “old times”! I’m even already thinking about the dress I’ll wear.
