It’s kind of funny because ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved working on myself—improving every aspect of my life and staying productive. I remember during summer breaks, while all my friends were playing, I’d be sitting on the balcony learning English.
That’s still true about me today; it’s a core part of my personality. Setting goals and being productive is something I strongly believe in and will always recommend to others.
However, as I got caught up in all the productivity and success tips out there, I noticed something: most of the advice comes from men, often emphasizing a relentless work ethic. While that approach might work well for them, I believe that as women, we need to add our own twist to it.
We need to learn how to slow down at times and savor life’s simple pleasures.
Women are more delicate than men in some ways, and our cycles often influence our mood and motivation.
Disclaimer: I believe men and women are equal, but not the same. Personally, I love being a feminine woman and see great strength and beauty in it. I have a master’s degree in mathematics and work full-time, but what I cherish most is wearing a nice dress, being spoiled by my husband, and, in turn, spoiling him with my cooking and femininity.
Many women aspire to wealth for the luxury it brings—bags, clothes, jewelry, or beauty treatments. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that; I enjoy those things too. But I also think it’s important to appreciate simple joys: a wildflower swaying in the breeze, droplets of water on a spider’s web glistening like diamonds in the sun, or the feeling of wind in our hair.
It’s crucial to keep pursuing your goals, whether they’re financial, personal, or related to self-improvement. But it’s equally important to recognize that we can’t do it all. Sometimes, we need to slow down and romanticize our lives, making ourselves the princesses of our own story.
So here are my tips on how to slow down and find more happiness:
1. Connect with nature
For me, there’s nothing more calming than the feeling of grass under my bare feet, the touch of plants or the rough texture of a tree trunk. The warmth of the sun on my face, the fresh breeze on my skin, and even the cozy sound of rain bring me peace.
I believe nature is one of the most grounding forces for humans, so I encourage you to spend time outdoors every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. You could set aside time for a walk in the park, or simply be mindful of engaging your senses with the natural world around you.
Personally, I love doing a simple yoga session outside on the grass near my apartment. Maybe for you, it’s a run in the nearby forest or a swim in the sea or ocean. What’s your favorite way to connect with nature?
Personal Thoughts: It may sound silly… but when was the last time you truly “connected” with nature? When did you hug a tree, touch the grass, soil, or leaves? Try it out! Numerous studies highlight the benefits for your mood and an improved immune system.
2. Establish a nourishing morning & evening routine
While your morning routine should certainly include time for motivational thoughts, reassessing your goals, and staying on track, it’s equally important to set aside moments to connect with yourself. Take time to tune into your body, notice the nature around you, and be present in the moment.
For me, every day starts with opening the window and taking a deep breath. I take in the beauty of the sky and nature outside. If it’s sunny, I step out onto the balcony and let the sun touch my skin. This simple ritual not only wakes me up but also grounds me.
I also recommend journaling. I don’t journal every day, but when I do, it’s always a mood booster. Sometimes, I write motivational, positive messages to myself; other times, I express fears or negative thoughts to release them and heal.
Your evening routine is just as crucial because quality sleep is vital for your body. Establishing a calming evening routine is key. Do you know what your ideal wind-down routine would be? Here are a few suggestions:
- Avoid using your phone at least 1-2 hours before bed.
- Steer clear of disturbing or scary movies.
- Read a book.
- Create a calming ambiance by dimming the lights or lighting a candle.
- Do a gentle stretch, like a soft yoga session.
- Write in your journal.
3. Buy yourself flowers every week
Imagine this: You walk into your apartment after a long day, and there’s a vase of beautiful, fresh flowers that instantly lifts your spirits. Dreamy, right? But it’s entirely possible! I love having fresh flowers in my space because they elevate the atmosphere and make you feel like a princess. When you feel good, you’re more motivated to tackle whatever’s on your plate, just like a warm cup of coffee can boost your energy.
Fresh flowers also add elegance and a touch of luxury to your home. If you aspire to live a luxurious lifestyle, this simple addition helps you manifest that dream by making you feel like you’re already living it. And the best part? You can find gorgeous flowers for just a few dollars.
4. Take yourself out on a date
Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or married, it’s important to nurture your relationship with yourself. Taking yourself out on a date is a beautiful way to practice self-love and appreciation. It’s a chance to prioritize your own happiness and well-being, without relying on others to create those moments for you.
Imagine this: You plan a day or an evening just for you, doing things that bring you joy and relaxation. Maybe it’s enjoying a leisurely breakfast at your favorite café, treating yourself to a movie you’ve been wanting to see, or spending an afternoon browsing a bookstore. The key is to do something that makes you feel special and cared for.
When you take yourself out on a date, you’re sending yourself a powerful message: that you’re worth the time, effort, and attention. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with yourself, reflect on your thoughts, and simply enjoy your own company. This practice not only boosts your self-esteem but also helps you become more in tune with your needs and desires.
And don’t forget to make it a regular habit! Whether it’s once a week or once a month, carve out time in your schedule to take yourself on a date. It could be as simple as a walk in the park, a visit to a gallery, or a solo dinner at a nice restaurant. By doing so, you’re building a loving and supportive relationship with yourself, which is the foundation for a fulfilled and happy life.
So go ahead—romanticize your life by dating yourself. You deserve it!
5. Make yourself look put together – for yourself
From a young age, many of us are told to look pretty to attract or please others, particularly men. And while it’s true that appearance can play a role in romantic relationships, dressing up shouldn’t just be about external validation. In fact, the most empowering reason to put effort into your appearance is for yourself.
When you take the time to dress well, style your hair, or apply makeup, you’re doing more than just enhancing your outer beauty—you’re also boosting your self-confidence and expressing your personal style. Looking put together isn’t about following trends or impressing others; it’s about showing up as the best version of yourself because you deserve to feel your best.

For me, I make an effort to look good every day not just for my husband, but primarily for myself. When I feel put together, I’m more confident, more motivated, and more ready to tackle whatever the day throws at me. It’s a way of respecting myself and acknowledging that I’m worth the time and effort. It’s not about vanity; it’s about self-respect and self-care.
You don’t have to wait for a special occasion to look your best. Even on a regular day, putting on an outfit that makes you feel amazing or spending a few extra minutes on your appearance can elevate your mood and mindset. It’s about embracing the idea that you’re worth the effort, every single day.
So, don’t save your best self for special events or for the sake of others. Make it a habit to look put together for yourself. When you feel beautiful and confident, it radiates from within and transforms how you experience your day-to-day life. After all, you’re the main character in your own story—why not look and feel the part?
6. Start a diary or journal
There’s something inherently romantic about the act of writing. When you sit down with a pen and paper (or a keyboard), you’re not just jotting down words—you’re engaging in a conversation with your soul. For me, journaling is a deeply personal and transformative practice that helps me connect with my inner self and appreciate the beauty in my life.
My journal is more than just a record of daily events; it’s a space where I can express my thoughts, dreams, and reflections. The first few pages of my journal have positive affirmations, the qualities of my best self, and a list of my goals, achievements, and the lessons I’ve learned. These first few pages serve me as a guide, helping me stay focused and aligned with my highest intentions.
What I love most about this ritual is how it sets the tone for my day. Every morning, I sit down with a warm cup of matcha at my desk, with fresh flowers just next to me. As I flip through those initial pages, I’m reminded of my purpose and the path I’ve chosen. It’s a moment of mindfulness that keeps my vibrations high and my mindset positive!
Journaling, to me, isn’t just about documenting your life—it’s about understanding your thoughts, setting intentions, and creating a personal sanctuary where you can reflect and grow. It’s a practice that allows you to slow down, appreciate the present moment, and connect with the deeper aspects of yourself.
Imagine starting your day with this peaceful ritual. It’s not just about writing; it’s about creating a space where you can dream, reflect, and plan. It’s a way to romanticize your life, infuse it with intention, and keep your spirit aligned with your goals and desires.
In an upcoming post, I’ll dive deeper into the art of journaling and share tips on how to get started. But for now, I encourage you to find a quiet spot, perhaps with a favorite drink, and begin your own journaling journey. Whether you write daily affirmations, reflect on your day, or set goals for the future, journaling is a powerful tool for self-discovery and personal growth.
7. Attend a sport class
In the spirit of self-care, I encourage you to find a sport or fitness class that not only keeps you active but also fills you with joy and excitement. Whether it’s dancing, yoga, Pilates, spinning, or Zumba, participating in a class that you genuinely enjoy can be a transformative experience.
These classes offer more than just physical benefits; they’re a way to infuse your life with positive energy, confidence, and happiness. Imagine the thrill of moving to the rhythm in a dance class or the calm focus you gain from a yoga session. These activities help you reconnect with your body, boost your mood, and add a sense of fun and adventure to your routine.
Attending a sport class regularly is also a wonderful way to romanticize your life. Picture yourself as the star of your own movie, taking time out of your day to do something that makes you feel alive and vibrant. It’s about embracing the present moment and doing something purely for yourself. The endorphins released during exercise will leave you feeling more confident, joyful, and ready to take on whatever life throws your way.
And let’s not forget the social aspect—classes often introduce you to like-minded people who share your interests, creating a sense of community and connection. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends and surround yourself with positive, uplifting energy.
So, find a class that excites you and make it a regular part of your routine. Not only will it contribute to your physical health, but it will also add a layer of joy and fulfillment to your life, helping you feel like the leading lady in your own story.
8. Unleash your creativity
Women often have a natural inclination toward creativity, and it doesn’t have to be limited to traditional arts like painting or music. Creativity can manifest in countless ways, each offering a unique outlet for self-expression and fulfillment.
Perhaps you’ve always wanted to attend a flower arrangement class, or maybe you have a passion for sewing, cooking, or crafting. I personally love painting! Engaging in these hands-on activities allows you to tap into your feminine energy, nurturing a deep connection with yourself and bringing a sense of joy and accomplishment into your life.
Actually, whether you’re arranging a bouquet of flowers, designing a piece of clothing, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, these activities can be incredibly therapeutic. They offer a way to unwind, focus your mind, and channel your emotions into something tangible and meaningful.
By embracing your creative side, you’re also embracing your individuality. It’s a way of expressing who you are, what you love, and what makes you unique. These creative pursuits can become a form of self-care, helping you relax, de-stress, and find a sense of balance and harmony in your daily life.
9. Surround yourself with beauty
We all love clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing space. As women, we’re often drawn to beautiful objects and spaces that inspire us. That’s why it’s so important to ensure that your surroundings reflect the beauty you look for in your life.
Creating a space that resonates with you can have an uplifting effect on your mood, motivation, and self-perception. When you’re surrounded by beauty, it’s easier to feel positive, confident, and at peace.
For me, I find beauty in crystals. I love having them around my home because they exude elegance and a sense of calm that I deeply appreciate. Each crystal has its own unique charm, and just seeing them throughout my space brings me a sense of joy and tranquility.
You might have different things that bring you that same sense of beauty—perhaps it’s fresh flowers, cherished pieces of art, or even stylish furniture that makes your home feel like a sanctuary. The key is to surround yourself with items and decor that resonate with your personal taste and aesthetic.
10. Practice gratitude
Last but certainly not least, practice gratitude. This is perhaps the most powerful tip of all. Gratitude has an incredible ability to transform your life and bring immense joy. When you focus on what you have and appreciate the small things, you start to see life through a lens of abundance rather than lack.
Gratitude can be as simple as taking a moment each day to acknowledge the things you often take for granted—your healthy body, the ability to see and feel, the comfort of your home, the love and support of family and friends. These are the true riches in life, and by recognizing them, you cultivate a deep sense of contentment and peace.
Practicing gratitude doesn’t require grand gestures. I do it personally in my journal, but sometimes it is just a reflecting moment when I shower or cook! It can be woven into your daily routine in a way that feels natural and effortless.
The act of being grateful shifts your focus away from what’s missing or what’s not going right, and instead, it draws your attention to the abundance that already exists in your life. This shift in mindset can lead to greater happiness, resilience, and even better relationships, as you begin to appreciate the people around you more deeply.
Gratitude also has a way of attracting more positivity into your life. When you consistently acknowledge the good, you start to notice even more things to be grateful for. It’s a beautiful cycle that nourishes your soul and enhances your overall well-being.
So, embrace gratitude as a daily practice.
